Physicals Q & A

What are physicals?

Physicals are examinations performed by the team at Family Care & Wellness to assess your overall health. The team provides physicals for adults and children. The specifics of your physical exam may depend on the type of physical you need, your age, sex, and overall health.

In general, your physical exam may include:

  • Measurement of body composition
  • Check of heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration
  • A look at your eyes, ears, nose, and throat
  • Review of your skin and general appearance
  • Palpation of your internal organs
  • Vision and/or hearing test

Your physical exam may also include lab work to screen for health conditions.

What are the types of physicals?

Family Care & Wellness is a full-service family medicine practice and performs many types of physicals. The most common include:

Annual physical

The annual physical is a comprehensive examination that reviews your overall health. Men, women, and children of all ages should have an annual physical every year.

School physical

Schools require a physical exam before your child can start classes. The specifics of the school exam are dependent on the school’s requirements, but the examination often must gather information about immunizations.

Sports physical

Before participating in a sport, you or your child must complete a sports physical. This exam is a comprehensive evaluation that focuses on your physical health and ability to perform the sport without risk of injury. Like the school physical, a sports physical requires documentation that you or your child are physically fit to participate in the sport.

What should I bring to my physical?

The team at Family Care & Wellness provides specific instructions on the items you need to bring to your physical exam based on the type of physical you need. In general, you should bring:

  • Medical records
  • A list of medications and dosages
  • Prescription eyeglasses or hearing aids
  • Required documents to be completed by the team

You should also bring a list of all your health questions and concerns.

Whether for school or general health, the team at Family Care & Wellness can provide the exam you need. Call the office today to schedule your physical exam.
